The increasing importance of the LV network has driven network business’s need for improved understanding of network behaviour at the edges of the LV network. Energy Queensland has monitored voltages at 3000 domestic customers premises to provide a rich data set that can help further this understanding. Initial data analysis has been focused on steady state peak voltages. Combining observations at customer premises, monitoring at the source distribution transformer and network attributes provide significant opportunity for insights. The analysis to date has been focused on:

  • An interactive visualisation for each LV area to explore relationships within the data;
  • Identified opportunities to add to the standard analysis (based on AS 61000-3-100) performed on transformer monitor data to identify areas that are significantly impacted by Solar PV; and
  • Investigate feasibility of developing machine learning models to predict peak voltage risks within each LV circuit.
